Microsoft will be releasing a new operating system for mobile devices, called Windows Phone 7. The new OS from Microsoft is scheduled for release this autumn, in October. It is the successor of Microsoft Mobile. The latter was rather a disappointment, as it didn’t manage to hold out too long on top of the mobile operating system market.
Microsoft has launched a new website called 'Mobile App Match' intended to promote discussion between application developers and consumers, "to start conversations, exchange ideas and see what develops." Programmers can post apps and videos to promote their efforts and generate feedback, while consumers can post requests and vote on new ideas and software to “influence mobile app builders."
Microsoft promised to create a great and predictable user experience by building it from scratch, rather than upgrading and tweaking Windows Mobile. Yes, this means that Windows Mobile application won’t work on the new OS. They seem very motivated to re-enter the competition. At the moment, only a test version of the Windows Phone 7 has been released . After testing it on a Samsung prototype Windows Phone 7 device, here’s what we found.
Any other suggestions or theories as to the future of and target devices for this mobile platform? We’d love to hear your thoughts and/or predictions in the comments section below!
